NYSAMS was founded in 1969 when it became evident that there was a need for
mathematics supervisors and mathematics educators in New York State to have an organization
devoted primarily to trends in mathematics, supervision, and communication.
Any person who has a dedicated interest in promoting mathematics education
in New York State is eligible to become a member.
Current membership includes individuals teaching or supervising
in K-12 or college as well as retirees and members of the New York State Education Department.
The annual breakfast meeting is held in the fall in conjunction with the annual AMTNYS meeting
of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State.
In addition to the breakfast meeting, session(s) are sponsored during the AMTNYS Conference.
FALL LEADERSHIP SUMMIT
NYSAMS holds a Leadership Summit in the Fall.
The program includes speakers prominent on the State and National level
as well as members of the New York State Education Department.
NYS MATHEMATICS EDUCATORS HALL OF FAME
NYSAMS sponsors and maintains the New York State Mathematics Educators Hall of Fame.
Nomination forms are posted on our site each spring, and selections are made by the summer.
Each fall, the induction ceremony takes place at the Hall of Fame dinner. The dinner is traditionally held
the evening prior to the NYSAMS Leadership Summit and at the same location.
Summit atendees are welcome and encouraged to register to attend the Hall of Fame dinner..
NYSAMS WEBSITEOur website is designed to be a nice portal for "one-stop-shopping".
The NYSAMS site provides links to other important mathematics organizations (such as NCSM, NCTM, and AMTNYS)
and informative sites (such as PARCC). It also has important information concerning our organization, forms, and events.
NEWSLETTER / e-BLAST
The newsletter is sent to all members at least twice a year. NYSAMS sends e-blasts to its membership as well.
The newsletters and e-blasts contain timely and important information for supervisors and mathematics educators.
Annual dues, as established by the organization, are $25 for annual membership,
$20 for retirees' annual membership, and $35 for a two-year membership for new members only.
The dues year runs from September through August.
